Greer, AZ is an unincorporated town located in Apache County in East Central Arizona. Situated high in the White Mountains at an elevation of 8500 feet, Geer is located 18 miles northeast of the State's largest ski resort, Sunrise Park Resort. Greer is located 200 miles north of both Phoenix and Tucson, AZ. Greer is 12 miles West of Springerville, AZ which has a paved 9000 foot rural airport runway for private aircraft. Medical and ambulance facilities are also located in Springerville at the White Mountains Community Hospital.

EMS and local Greer fire protection is provided by the Greer Fire District.

The village of Greer, AZ was settled in 1879 and was originally called "Lee Valley". It was renamed after an early pioneer, Americus Vespucious Greer in 1898. Greer is home to the oldest guest lodge in Arizona, Molly Butlers Lodge, established in 1908. Greer has always been famous for its beauty, climate and is one of Arizona's premiere tourist destinations. Greer's average temperatures are 30 degrees cooler than metro Phoenix. Greer is surrounded by U.S. Forest Land and is located near the head waters of the Little Colorado River, which create the three Greer lakes, (River, Tunnel, and Bunch). Greer has abundant wildlife which makes it a major attraction to anglers, hunters and recreation seekers.

Winter Activities

Greer's winters are mild despite its 8500 foot elevation, due to the mountains that surround our bowled village community. The state of Arizona's largest and most popular ski resort is located just 20 minutes west of Greer. Sunrise Park Resort consists of three mountains, with 65 ski runs, with separate snowboarding, cross county, downhill, and special children's "ski-wee" areas. The resort has 10 ski lifts with uphill skier capacity of over 16,000 per hour. Winter's in Greer, are Great!!

Summer Activities

When the rest of the State of Arizona is Blistering HOT, Greer is cool and wet. At an elevation of 8500 ft., Greer stays green, cool and wet all summer long. Greer's average summer day time temperature is 68 degrees. Summer activities abound and include, stream and lake trout fishing, world renowned fly fishing instruction, hiking throughout the White Mountain region, mountain biking, horseback riding, ATV/Quad off road vehicle trails, hunting, camping grounds, and Golf. There is something for just about everyone in Greer!!

    Sunrise has a full summer of events and activities scheduled including flyfishing schools, a 3-D archery shoot, and a July 4th fireworks display over the lake Open daily, Snowy Mountain Stables, located at the area, offers trail rides for riders of all levels and abilities as well as wagon rides. The General Store and Sunrise Marina are open daily with fishing, camping and picnic supplies as well as fuel and permits for th White Mountain Apache Reservation . The Marina has boat rentals available and is located on Sunrise Lake. Sunrise Lodge is a 100-room, full service lodge open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with meeting and conference space available.
